While I was cleaning away this weekend and putting things in order after a hectic week, I found inspiring details around our home popping out at me. I photographed them to share with you.
Over the last year of blogging you will see many posts like this one in my archives, posts which reveal romantic details in my home. That’s because that is who I am, the Details Girl. I’ve never had a large budget for dream room makeovers. It has always been a shoestring budget for me.
My rooms are filled with simple white muslin, the $1.49 a yard type and lace found at tag sales.
I’ve learned to let cupid china cups satisfy my cravings for more sumptuous decorating fare.
I imagine that the simple rooms I've created with their old brick walls belong to some faraway cottage in the French countryside.
Be inspired by the little things in life . . . they can fill your soul with beauty.

It is the people that make the house a home and I know you do that well with your warm heart... and it doesn't matter what budget we have for that right?

Sometimes the most expensive things are not the most chic anyway, it's how you put things together, and you have a great ability to do that Nancy :)
I couldn't agree more with those two ladies commenting before me. I love your photos! I love your muslin and lace! We have a saying, something like: if you don't appreciate the small things in life, you are not worth the 'big' things in life either.

Nancy, your photos are lovely! whenever i have tried to upload larger photos {from flickr} they always turn out fuzzy...yours are so crisp and clear...you really so have some of the prettiest things!!!
Your photos are fantastic. Beautiful details. It is the small things. And besides, money can't buy style and a good eye, which I consider so much more important - you've got those in spades!

Ah, yes, simplicity is best. I too am a fan of the $1.49 muslin - it goes far to add texture (love the way it crinkles), and soft light.
You have a natural touch for decorating details. I could learn a lot from you!

You emanate beauty with all you do Nancy! There is so much beauty in muslin and second hand lace. My house is filled with it and so many other treasures I have "saved from the junk pile" and given new life to! It's not how much you pay for what you have, it's how much you love and enjoy what you have!

I, too, live in a simple house. From the outside it is your standard 1950's ranch, but open my front door and you enter another time and place. It is food for my soul and solace after a trying day at the shop. Nothing to terribly expensive inside, just treasures found wherever they may turn up. I long to open your front door, see your french cottage and marvel at your creativity.

It is my opinion that the shoe-string budget has been behind the assemblage and discovery of more beautiful details than any multi-million dollar ones. Your are right on in your eye, Nancy, for you are an artist who focuses beautifully.
