The Glories of White

When I took down our Christmas decorations a few weeks ago, I realized I wasn't ready to let the nostalgia of the season go. I was ready for less clutter, but I wanted to bring in the glories of winter. It doesn't snow where I live, and I've never seen a white Christmas. My thoughts turned to the ethereal quality of white, and how much I love it.

I've heard many designers call white cold and sterile. Some say it is an unimaginative way to decorate. To me, a room done in layers of white is heaven.

I have a small archway in my home that I like to decorate all year round. It doesn’t feel like home unless something is hanging from my it. When I took down our Christmas garland, it looked bare and lonely.

I kept picturing something white and pretty, but couldn’t quite envision what I wanted. Then the thought of feathers filled my mind; lovely white ones, draped across the archway. Luckily, I had two white boas, and voila!

A Winter Wonderland

Here are some of my favorite photos of white.

Yes, bravo for the whites! Love your photos, especially the china doll head in the mother of pearl mmm what should I call it? It's the combination of different whites that makes your decorations warm! Your white photos are tickling the imagination! Have a lovely day in your winter wonderland at (probably) acceptable temperatures!

White is classic and I love it! Our bedroom is in white and gold with a blush of pink here and there...for me, it's the combination of TEXTURES and shades that make white so beautiful! WOnderful photos, ma belle! Bisous, Anita

those are gorgeous photos Nancy...i love white too...i realized that too late...after my home was all painted in colors that now make me cringe...as i put away my Christmas decorations yesterday, and brought out my everyday things...i tried to spread my color around, and mix it in with my more natural colored things...it looks a little more calm to me...

Beautiful pictures…
I love the fairy white touch around your archway.

It is funny how white calls out to ones heart and soul.
I always plan on color and then come back to white.
I am always on the look out for blogs that speak in white…
I can spend hours looking at the wonderful pictures of white décor.

Dear Nancy,

Gorgeous, gorgeous. I love the look you achieved with the white theme. It feels clean, fresh and open, and I love all those qualities. Great pictures.

Love to you and yours,

Ruben

P.S., Here in MN we not only get a white Christmas but a third of the year is white. Despite the cold it is beautiful.
