New Year

It’s late at night. I can hear time moving in the tick of the clock. It is bringing us closer to a new year. I take a gulp of air, breathing it in. And in that breath I’m filled with hope.

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas

This will be my last post before Christmas. It has been a lovely season this year. I want to thank you all for your kind comments on the angel wings. Here are the last of my Christmas photos before the wonderful day.

Touches of Gold

I took the olive branches from my post here and stripped the lower leaves, painting the tips with gold leaf.

Bits of color scattered here and there, happy spots in a winter wonderland.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Christmas Angel Wings

What can be more heavenly at Christmas time than angel wings? I have wanted a pair of antique angel wings for years. Knowing that I will probably never own a pair has made me get creative.

I used poster board backing as a base for gluing paper feathers. Then I cut teardrop feathers, layering them on the poster board. They measure 11 inches wide by 22 inches tall. I still have to glue down the feathers and hang them.

The pair pictured below is actually one wing. I reversed the photo to see what they will look like when finished.

Not the wings of my dreams, but a fun alternative.

Merry Christmas!

Beautiful December

It’s raining, it’s pouring . . .

It’s been a week filled with birthday celebrations, romantic hot cocoa, tinsel tree trimming and so much more.

My attempt at pretty cupcakes turned into easy frosting and sugar sprinkle creations.

What birthday celebration is complete without chocolate! Chocolate ganache cupcakes with a chocolate cheesecake in the center.

We finished trimming our tree last night. We purchased a Monterey pine this year. One of our local Christmas tree farms had an amazing sale on these pretty trees and a $5.00 off coupon. After we got the tree set up in our kitchen we started layering and eventually tossing on the tinsel. Wonderful memories from my childhood flooded my heart. When I was searching for vintage tinsel I kept coming across articles titled, Do You Love Tinsel or Hate it? I can tell you this year I’m definitely a Love it person!!

I purchased non-leaded vintage tinsel to keep us safe. The boxes were marked Woolworth’s. Do any of you remember this department store? When I was a little girl my mother would take me to Woolworth’s for lunch. Our local store had the best grilled cheese sandwiches and malted milks in the world.

This is what happened to the left-over branches trimmed from our tree.

I tied them with some summer dried blooms and grasses to our kitchen chandelier.

I’ll be back soon to share some photos from one of my favorite stores.

Blessings!
