May Day Pretties and My Canon PowerShot SX100

May Day is a special day in our home. It is a time to gather flowers and leave them as gifts for the ones we love. This year I'm using an old ladder to help display some of our spring blooms.

Pink ranunculus. I love the paper-like quality of these flowers.

I've had some questions about the camera I use. First, it is not a digital SLR camera. It's a simple point and shoot camera. My experience with this model has been wonderful. It takes incredible macro photos and has an easy to use manual mode you can play with. I purchased this camera almost 4 years ago at Best Buy, and it's still going strong. I don't use Photoshop on my photos. I will sometimes contrast and lighten my photos in Microsoft Office Picture Manager, so the majority of photos you see on my blog are truly straight from this camera. I hope that this helps those of you who have emailed me about this camera. My suggestion would be to check out Canon’s website here. If you’re having trouble deciding which camera to purchase, call them. They’re very helpful. My dream is to someday own a digital SLR, but until then I’m pretty happy with this one.

I leave you with freesias and roses by my bedside. Have a great week!

Nancy my dear,

How could have I missed this? I am always on top of your new posts....this is as bright and lovely as always and reminds me of the FAERY TALE I experienced in your home last summer; in fact, I just woke up from a sweet dream that the entire family was together again. Thank you for visiting, and YES, I watched the wedding live here at my home computer before I went to work. One of my students just moved to London because her father was transferred there; she sent me an email with a video of the entrance into the cathedral and as a class yesterday, we sent her an email. She is loving all the magic she has experienced so far. How beautiful things can be when WE MAKE IT HAPPEN....love to you, Anita

As always your photos are lovely…
Nancy you do have something that can’t be taught and that is an eye
for photos.
It is not the camera that makes a great picture but the person behind it…

Have a great day,
Louise

I totally agree with LW. It's obviously not the camera that makes your photos so amazingly beautiful, it's your way with the camera. And that has me so hopeful Nancy that I can do much better job with mine because I have a little cannon point and shoot......Now I'm really motivated to actually read the instruction booklet! *winks* Vanna

Of course I agree with Louise more than 100%! Not only that but you are one of the keenest stylists I know too. Your photo in the sidebar is magnificent, you are a true beauty Nancy, inside and out-.

Dear Nancy,
It's funny. I came by to see the camera you recommended on your sidebar and low and behold you have written your post just for me.
You are the premiere stylist and you've got it down with your point and shoot canon. Yes to what Louise said and LiLi seconded. One can have the camera, but it will do nothing without the "eye". And YES you've got the eye AND the right camera at least for now!!!!!!!

This shot above is luscious.

Like you, I've longed for a SLR for years. When I broke my wrist last year that put my camera on HOLD, big time!! And the Nikon I use to replace another camera I had that broke has been a super disappointment!! Anyway I'm hoping to finally get my SLR in July.

Nuff about cameras.
More importantly!! Dropped by to wish you a very Happy Mother's Day!
I have a feeling your a better mother than photographer. ;-)

Bonjour ma chère,

Thank you for coming to visit me last night; my mother's memory is sweet and the laughter of OUR MOM is always a joyful SONG when we talk to her on the phone. May she be well and we will all talk on Sunday. Peace to you my lovely one, Anita

Happy Saturday, Nancy!

Your fab camera and the skill you wield when you use it are one of the things that first drew me to your corner of Blogland.

Your images are so TASTY! The flower shots in this post are a fine example of that.

Thank you for making such delicious eye candy for us all to enjoy...

Hugs,

Kate

Nancy, I used to own a point and shoot camera, but it never took pictures like these.
I'm willing to bet the artist behind the camera might've had something to do with this wonderful photography.

I have always wondered how you get your great shots Nancy. I love your photography. I also know that good pictures don't depend on the camera...it depends on the one behind it and what they see throught the lens. And nobody does it better than you! I love the fact that you share the pictures straight from the camera.
The picture of you on your sidebar is so beautiful. You are as lovely as I imagined you to be.
hugs from here...

your photos are lovely! i recently got a canon g12 since i decided that an SLR is too big for me and since i know nothing about manual settings i should try out a hybrid first. hopefully i will learn to take lovely pictures like yours.
