Orange ~ 31 Days ~ and Apple Crisp

What would fall be like without orange? It’s a color I’m not naturally drawn to. During this season it has free reign in my home.

My neighbor was tossing out these wonderful Chinese lanterns. I caught her just in time.

I’m feeling better and want to say thank you to all of my wonderful blogging friends who wished me well. While I was laid low, I came across The Inspired Room’s 31 Days series. The bloggers participating in this event are so very real. If you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, I encourage you to. Here are links to my two favorite posts (so far):

Take care of yourself . . .

These are the Days of Grace

A favorite fall recipe for you: Apple Crisp ~ à la Fete et Fleur

6 apples
1 cup of oats
1/3 cup of flour
2/3 cup of white sugar
1/2 cup of butter
Cinnamon
Ginger
Vanilla

Heat oven to 350 degrees and butter a glass baking dish. I use a 10x6 glass dish.

The Apple Part:

Peel and cut the apples into small squares. Put the apple pieces in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons of white sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon (or to taste) of cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon of ginger. Stir it all together and set aside.

The Crisp Part:

Melt the butter.

In another bowl, combine:

1 cup of oats
1/3 cup of flour
2/3 cup of white sugar
The cup of melted butter
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon of ginger
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Stir until crumbly.

Now stir the apples one last time and pour them into the buttered baking dish. Cover the apples with the crisp. Pat the crisp evenly over the apples and pop the whole thing into the oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until the top is a golden color and the apples are soft.

This is yummy served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

ENJOY!

I totally agree with you Nancy that in this season orange may reign in my house! Here Autumn is rather grey and dull (always), so I need a color like orange. I remember even as a kid that I was angry at my mom when we ate endive while I thought it would be so much better to eat carrots or beets because of the color!
I cannot read your recipes now, I am on a diet for the first time in my life. A low carb diet and so far so good. But I have to avoid temptations, even in blogland as they make me hungry.
Have a lovely day!

Dear Nancy,
Sorry to hear you were feeling low…..
I hope all is well now.
Orange, I love the color orange; I don’t dress or use it in my home, like you only a tad in the fall.
But when I was a teen it was my favorite color and seeing that color today still makes me happy and brings back wonderful memories. My teen room had orange accents, I dressed in orange, and my husband's car was orange when we were dating. So as you see I do relate to this wonderful autumn color.

I think you are very gracious to allow orange into your home. I have grown rather weary of all of those pallid, white pumpkins. The orange ones reigns king for me.

What a delicious recipe. I shall try yours indeed.

Nancy,
It's amazing how you rescued and transformed that table and now have decorated it so spectacularly. I truly love that arrangement with the orange Halloween (or is it Harvest?) theme. And I will be trying out your apple crisp recipe.

Love to you et al.
