Beautiful December

It’s raining, it’s pouring . . .

It’s been a week filled with birthday celebrations, romantic hot cocoa, tinsel tree trimming and so much more. Here's my attempt at pretty cupcakes. They turned into easy frosting and sugar sprinkle creations.

We finished trimming our tree last night. We purchased a Monterey pine this year. One of our local Christmas tree farms had an amazing sale on these pretty trees and a $5.00 off coupon. After we got the tree set up in our kitchen we started layering and eventually tossing on the tinsel. Wonderful memories from my childhood flooded my heart. When I was searching for vintage tinsel I kept coming across articles titled, Do You Love Tinsel or Hate it? I can tell you this year I’m definitely a Love it person!!

I purchased non-leaded vintage tinsel to keep us safe. The boxes were marked Woolworth’s. Do any of you remember this department store? When I was a little girl my mother would take me to Woolworth’s for lunch. Our local store had the best grilled cheese sandwiches and malted milks in the world.

This is what happened to the left-over branches trimmed from our tree.

I tied them with some summer dried blooms and grasses to our kitchen chandelier.

I’ll be back soon to share some photos from one of my favorite stores.

Blessings!

Very pretty! I was all humbug this year and wasn't going to decorate and then I got inspired and at least made up a little white tree I have. Decorated it all in silhouettes. Maybe now I'll feel up to lugging out all my decorations and even getting a big tree, too. ;) Happy December to you, too!

NANCY!!! Now, I am having déjà vu right now! Oh how lovely this is and the only thing missing from this equation for me is your presence; I WOULD LOVE TO BE THERE WITH YOU, and I would like to think you would enjoy being here chez nous, with all the glittery lights and coziness. Our two rooms are being added daily. Today, the roof went on and soon the French doors go up along with the exposed beams. THANK YOU FOR COMING TO VISIT EVEN THOUGH YOUR SCHEDULE HAS BEEN SO BUSY!!! BOTH RUBEN AND I are bushed with school work, but thank heavens we get two weeks off week after next.

LOVE YOU AND YOU BRING SUCH HAPPINESS WITH YOUR LOVELY HOME!

Your tree looks fantastic! I love the look of tinsel on a tree. With 3 kitties, it would be a disaster. So I will just admire yours.

Love the greenery on the chandelier too.

How beautiful your decorations are. When I first saw the word Woolworths, I thought of how we always had grilled cheese too. It brought back good memories.
Merry Christmas!

Nancy ....I LOVE IT!!! I am such a HUGE fan of tinsel... I always have to have it on my tree.... as a child and even now it was/is my favorite part of trimming the tree ...there is something so special about the glow from the lights shining onto the tinsel that brings a smile to my face ...

I also remember Woolworths.. many special days come to mind when I think about that store ...I must thank you for this stroll down memory lane... visions of sugar plums are dancing in my head...

Thank you

Beautiful!

Love the cupcakes, your tree and what magic you've created for your chandelier! Are those cornflowers I see? Love them.

I remember Woolworth's and their grilled cheese sandwiches, always felt like a star having a seat at the counter. Good memories, thank you, Nancy.

Hi Nancy,

That's it... I'm moving in! :) You have an angel's touch when it comes to decorating.

Your tree is so pretty - reminds me of our childhood trees with vintage tinsel. After Christmas every year we'd carefully pull the tinsel off the tree and wrap it carefully around a cardboard to keep it safe until the next year.

I still miss that beautiful ritual.

Happy Christmas Dear Friend,

Hugs,

Kate

Lovely decorations Nancy …
Your tree is so pretty…

Woolworth's was such a big part of my childhood, my mom loved to shop.

I have not used tinsel in a long time, years ago my kids wanted to do our smaller dining room tree with color lights and tinsel. We decorated with vintage and homemade ornaments and we strung popcorn. For my kids the highlight was colored lights, I always use white, for me it was the strung popcorn and tinsel just like when I was a child.

I so very much wish that I could find the same tinsel you did. Your tree is beautiful!

And I loved Woolworths! When I was in sixth grade, I went with my Sunday School teacher for a special day in downtown Minneapolis. That day, I purchased my very first make-up ever, a beautiful case of blue eye-shadow from Woolworth's. So wishing they were still around!

Enjoy this Christmas season!
